When the Yankees and the Mets played at Citi Field on Tuesday night, it was 12 AM in London, which is where the Bombers just came back from and that is the ONLY reason why the Yankees LOST to the Mets on Tuesday night. It has NOTHING to do with the fact that Mets’ pitcher Zack Wheeler is GREAT against righties and the Yankees are STACKED with right-handed batters. This weekend is the LAST series before the All Star break and for the Yankees it is against the DEVIL Rays, who are currently in SECOND place in the AL East, so the Yankees can create MORE separation between them and the REST of the division this weekend before going into the All Star break.
Subway Series RECAP:
Game ONE: The Yankees bats were still SLEEPING on Sunday night but they managed to score TWO runs and had a 2-1 run LEAD going into the BOTTOM of the EIGHTH. James Paxton took the mound for the Yankees and he was helped A LOT by the defense behind him, who turned FANTASTIC double plays to keep the Mets OFF the board.
The Yankees had handed a ONE run lead to their GREAT bullpen and you would HOPE that they would be able to PRESERVE it, but on Tuesday night that was NOT the case. The Mets got a runner on base due to a fielding ERROR by the Yankees and then Adam Ottavino gave up SINGLES that turned into DOUBLES because of how the defense was lined up in the outfield and as a result the Mets scored THREE in the inning and went on to BEAT the Yankees 4-2 in the FIRST game of the Subway Series. The Yankees were NOT bad in the game but the SLOW start by the offense was PUZZLING. The hitting STREAK of DJ LeMahieu and the CONSECUTIVE home run STREAK by the Yankees were both SNAPPED on Tuesday night.
Game TWO: Domingo German has RETURNED from the DL to make the start on Wednesday. When he went on the DL, he LED the American League pitchers in WINS and thanks to the offense WAKING UP, he was able to get his TENTH win of the season.
From the FIRST batter of the game, the Yankees offense was FIRING as DJ LeMahieu hit a DOUBLE and then Aaron Judge DROVE him home, when then came around to score on a single by Gleyber Torres. Before he even got to the mound, German had a 2-0 lead and after giving up a home run to the FIRST batter of the game for the Mets, German CALMED DOWN and pitched GREAT. The Yankees are in DESPERATE need of a pitcher and MAYBE German can be the one that STEPS UP and becomes that SECOND best pitcher on the staff behind Masahiro Tanaka.
After the CONSECUTIVE Home Run STREAK was SNAPPED on Tuesday night, Didi Gregorius and Gio Urshela started a NEW streak last night.
That one AIN’T COMING BACK! 💣

Gio Urshela doesn’t just make web gems, he also hits 400-foot taters.

When I first saw the home run TROT by Gio, I PANICKED and thought that he was the NEXT player on the Yankees to get HURT but he came RIGHT BACK into the game and it looks like he just had to go to the bathroom and LOSE some weight, if you know what I mean.
Outside of that home run, Gio was GREAT in the field all game making GREAT plays left and right and even the MAIN MLB Instagram account HIGHLIGHTED his GREAT leather work.

AIDED by the GREAT defense and TIMELY hitting, the Yankees BEAT the Mets to SPLIT the season series against the CROSSTOWN RIVALS. For the SEWER RATS, I mean the Mets, this is a HUGE win for them as their ONLY goal every season is to BEAT the Yankees, while the Bombers are thinking about WINNING their 28th championship.
PRIOR to the game on Wednesday night, manager Aaron Boone was asked about Gleyber Torres getting SNUBBED of the All Star Game after the MLB announced the REPLACEMENTS of the Mid Summer Classic and Gleyber STILL did NOT make it. Boone did NOT have a filter when speaking about that and I LOVED it.

Gleyber is ONE of the BEST players at his position and the ONLY reason he is NOT at the All Star Game is because the MLB does NOT want to CROWD the roster with a BUNCH of Yankees, but it is NOT the Yankees’ fault that they are so LOADED and the rest of the American League is TRASH. I think the SNUBBING has clearly put a CHIP on the Yankees’ shoulder and they NEED that as they are in CLEAR lead of the division and can COAST through the REMAINDER of the regular season.
UPDATE: As I was writing this blog, ANOTHER injury happened to an All Star in the American League and we FINALLY got justice and Gleyber was named an All Star, which is EXTREMELY well deserved.
The MLB regular season ENDS in LATE September, but the Yankees can BASICALLY CLINCH the AL East this weekend in Tampa Bay before the All Star break next week. Going into today, the Yankees are up 6.5 games on the SECOND place DEVIL Rays and with a STRONG showing in the FOUR game set this weekend, the Yankees can INCREASE their lead to the point where it is UNREACHABLE for the DEVIL Rays and the Red Sox, who are ELEVEN back. The Yankees are 7-2 against the DEVIL Rays and 6-1 against the Red Sox this season so a TEN game LEAD is basically going to be IMPOSSIBLE for them to BLOW in the SECOND half of the season.
Game ONE: Today- Yonny Chirinos vs JA Happ
Game TWO: Friday Night- Brendan McKay vs Masahiro Tanaka
Game THREE: Blake Snell vs CC Sabathia
Game FOUR: Charlie Morton vs James Paxton
The Yankees have had a GREAT first half of the season, they now just have to finish STRONG this weekend and RELAX next week.
