A week ago, the New York Yankees were AILING as they got on the plane to go on a NINE game West Coast trip, BUT through the first SEVEN games, they are 6-1 and have NEVER looked better this season than they are right now. The REPLACEMENTS have been GREAT in place of the INJURED players. They are in Arizona for a QUICK two game set starting tonight in the LAST two games of this road trip, but with the way they have been playing there, we have to to ask SHOULD THEY JUST THERE?
On the West Coast, Luke Voit has EMERGED as the STAR of the team. He has been MASHING the ball all over the place and if he continues to play this way, he is going to be an All-Star and be in CONTENTION for MVP votes.
Other players that have turned into GREAT players right now are guys like Gio Urshela, who has a chance to be the third baseman of the future of this team. The ONE thing that the WRATH of injuries has done for the Yankees is show how GREAT their Farm system is and we now know that EVEN if the injured players get healthy and get hurt AGAIN, the Yankees have VIABLE options to play IN PLACE of them.
Over the last week, the injury bug has CALMED down with the MRI’s on DJLM and Gio Urshela coming out fine and Gary Sanchez returning on Friday and MASHING two HUGE bombs over the weekend in San Francisco. The Yankees are VERY optimistic that Miguel Andujar and Tulo will RETURN when they come back HOME on Friday so we are starting to see the Yankees get HEALTHY at the RIGHT time.
Tonight and tomorrow afternoon the Yankees are in Arizona to take on the Diamondbacks for two games before returning home.
Game 1: LATE Tonight- Zack Grienke vs CC Sabathia
Game 2: Wednesday LATE Afternoon: Merrill Kelly vs Masahiro Tanaka
Going into Tuesday night’s action, the Yankees are just TWO games back in the AL East standings, so they are really CLOSE to doing something that was UNTHINKABLE when you look at all the players they are sending out there.
