34 different Previews of the Weekend Series between the Yankees and Indians

The New York Yankees were in Baltimore to take on the WORST team in baseball, the Orioles, but the series did NOT go as plan as the Yankees would have liked. They had the LEAD in all FOUR games this week, but they only managed to win TWO games and have fallen FOUR games out of FIRST place in the AL East, which is their LARGEST deficit since May. This week has been DISAPPOINTING for the Yankees thus far but they somehow manage to BEAT UP on GOOD teams and LOSE to BAD teams, we will see that theory is TRUE when they take on the Cleveland Indians this weekend, who are a FIRST place team.

Yankees- Orioles Series Recap-

Game 1- On Monday, we were lined up to play TWO games to make up for a RAIN OUT from last month and the Yankees had a 3-0 lead with CC Sabathia on the mound, who has been GREAT this season. CC really STRUGGLED on Monday and ended up giving up a THREE run Home Run to give the Orioles the lead and they went on to WIN the game 4-3.

The Yankees should have SWEPT the Orioles this week but that was NO LONGER possible for the Bronx Bombers.

Game 2- Briefly after the FINISH of the first game of the Double Header, the Yankees and the Orioles returned to Camden Yards for the SECOND game and this game went as PLANNED for the Yankees.

They had the EARLY 1-0 lead and then Captain America, Brett Gardner took over the game.

Gardy had FOUR hits in the game and had a BUNCH of GREAT plays in the outfield to help the Yankees get a 10-2 WIN and SPLIT the doubleheader. Monday Night was a TEAM effort for the Yankees, they got contributions from EVERYONE and despite having Luis Cessa making a SPOT start, the Yankees COASTED to a WIN.

Game 3- After COASTING in the second game of the double header, the Yankees were looking to WIN the next TWO games and continue to ROLL and it looked that was going to be the case when the Yankees had a 5-2 lead late in the game, thanks in large part to a THREE run Home Run by Greg Bird that ended up on Eutaw Street.

Masahiro Tanaka had RETURNED from the DL and he gave up TWO runs in his start but I did NOT expect much more from him as the Yankees were leading at the time he was taken OUT of the game. The Yankee Bullpen has been GREAT this season and they had a THREE run lead to play with on Tuesday Night but Chad Green gave up a THREE run Home Run to FUTURE Yankee? Manny Machado.

Dellin Betances, who had NOT given up a run in his last EIGHTEEN appearances did NOT have his A stuff on Tuesday and gave up a Walk Off Single to the Orioles, on a ball that went THROUGH Greg Bird’s glove. The Yankees LOST the game 6-5 and fell 3.5 games out of FIRST place and MOST Yankee Fans, NOT me, were pushing the PANIC button.

Game 4- This series had NOT gone to script thus far for the Yankees and they NEEDED to win last night or I might have also pushed the PANIC button. After the ball going through his glove on Tuesday night, Greg Bird made sure to make up for it last night by putting a ball JUST outside Eutaw Street.

Bird was GREAT this series and maybe that will help IMPROVE the TERRIBLE season he was having going into this series. After the Bird GRAND SLAM, the Yankees were in COAST mode. Tyler Wade got his FIRST career Home Run to EXTEND the lead and the Yankees went on to win the game 9-0 and SPLIT this series against the WORST team in baseball.

Sonny Gray had been TRASH all season, but he had SIX shutout innings last night and got the win, so maybe like Bird, this is the series that TURNS Gray’s season around. I am NOT saying that I am a GENIUS but I DO think that I can PREDICT the future.

This week was NOT smooth sailing for the Bombers, but the WIN last night should RESTORE some confidence into Yankee fans. It is AMAZING that some fans are pushing the PANIC button on this team, despite them having the SECOND best record in baseball and the way that they have played against the Boston Red Sox, who have the BEST record in baseball, I am #NotWorried just yet.

There have been a TON of RUMORS swirling about Manny Machado being possibly traded to the Yankees and if that is the case then the Yankees are a MUCH better team offensively but they need to FOCUS on improving their pitching staff. They are AT LEAST one if NOT more pitchers SHORT right now, so even though adding Machado would make them a BETTER team, it is does NOT fill their BIGGEST weakness.

The Yankees are in Cleveland this weekend to take on the Indians in the LAST series before the All Star Break. This is the REMATCH of the ALDS from last season, when the Yankees came back from being DOWN 0-2 in the series to win the series in FIVE games. These two have ALREADY played at Yankee Stadium this season, when the Yankees SWEPT the Indians during the LONGEST winning streak of the season.

These two teams match ups really well against each other and I would NOT be shocked if they play in the Postseason AGAIN this season. This series kicks off with a GREAT pitching match up tonight between ARGUABLY the TWO of the FIVE best pitchers in baseball right now.

Yankees Indians Pitching Match Ups-

Game 1: Tonight- Luis Severino vs Corey Kluber

Game 2: Friday Night- Domingo German vs Shane Bieber

Game 3: CC Sabathia vs Mike Clevinger

Game 4: Masahiro Tanaka vs Trevor Bauer

The Yankees have had a GREAT first half of the season and they can close it out even STRONGER if they are able to take care of the Indians before taking MUCH NEEDED time off next week.
