Yankees Series Preview- Orioles

Playing against TRASH teams is FUN to watch

The New York Yankees close out their tour through the TRASH teams in the AL East this week when they take on the Baltimore Orioles, which is the WORST team in baseball. The Yankees were NORTH of the border this past weekend and despite the continued STRUGGLES of Sonny Gray, they WON the series over the Toronto Blue Jays. Brett Gardner, who is the LONGEST tenured player on the roster had the game WINNING hits in BOTH the games that they won this weekend. The Bronx Bombers should continue to ROLL over TRASH teams this week in Baltimore.

Yankees- Blue Jays Series Review-

Game 1- Sonny Gray has TERRIBLE in the ELEVEN months that he has been with the Yankees, but he has been ABOVE average on the ROAD this season, so I was expecting an ABOVE average start from him on Friday night but he let Yankee fans down once AGAIN. He gave up FIVE runs in the SECOND inning and the Yankees never recovered from that.

Maybe him calling the Yankees, “the BEST team in baseball the days that he is NOT pitching”, might in fact be TRUE.

Game 2- After seeing Gray STRUGGLE again, the Yankees are clearly in the market for ANOTHER starting pitcher and among the pitchers that is on the trading block is JA Happ, who was on the mound for the Blue Jays on Saturday. Brett Gardner is such a GREAT team player that he DECREASED the trade value of Happ on the FIRST pitch of the game.

Aaron Judge followed up Gardner with his TWENTY FIFTH Home Run of the season and after a Brandon Drury TWO run double, the Yankees had a 4-0 lead after the TOP of the FIRST inning. The BEST pitcher in baseball, Luis Severino was on the mound for the Yankees, so the Yankees did NOT need all that run support. Sevy got his FOURTEENTH win of the season, which LEADS the MLB and the next closest pitcher has TWELVE.

The Yankees got some runs towards the END of the game to increase their lead and WIN the game 8-5. It was NOT all great for the Yankees as Aaron Hicks and Aroldis Chapman had to EXIT the game with injuries. NEITHER player has been added to DISABLED LIST yet so the Yankees have DODGED a bullet right now.

Game 3- It was their THIRD series in a row in which the Yankees were playing a RUBBER game to win the series and like the past TWO times, they WON the game to WIN the series. The Yankees scored ONE run in the FIRST inning but went QUIET after that.

Domingo German gave up ONE run in a TERRIFIC start and we were headed to EXTRA innings which has NOT been the smoothest sailing for the Yankees over the past few seasons but Brett Gardner came in CLUTCH once again.

David Robertson came into get the SAVE for the Yankees in the absence of Chapman and the Yankees got their FIFTY EIGHTH win of the season. They are now 5-4 in EXTRA inning games this season after being TRASH in EXTRAs over the past FIVE seasons.

I expected the Yankees to beat up on the Blue Jays and I expect the same this week against the Orioles. Sonny Gray’s POOR performance has worried me a lot and Johnny Lasagna has been SHUT DOWN with a shoulder injury so the Yankees DESPERATELY need a starting pitcher and they might not be able to WAIT until the trade deadline.

Offensively, the Yankees have been TERRIBLE with Runners In Scoring Position but I am not worried just yet as they have the BEST winning percentage in baseball despite that. The offense is going to be fine and their bull pen is already LIGHTS OUT so if the Yankees can find a CONSISTENT starting pitcher than they are SET for PROMISED land this season.

After the game Yesterday, MLB announced the All Star Game roster and the Yankees had FOUR players nominated and possibly more. Aaron Judge was named the STARTING outfielder for the Yankees, while Gleyber Torres will be a BENCH player. Aroldis Chapman and Luis Severino were among the pitchers selected in the American League. Giancarlo Stanton was one of the players selected for the FINAL vote so he MIGHT be the FIFTH Yankee in the All Star Game, but we will have to END of the week.

The Yankees and the Orioles play FOUR games in THREE days this week as they are making up ONE of the Rain Outs from the END of May. They will play in a STRAIGHT Double Header tonight and play Night games tomorrow and Wednesday. The Yankees are UNDEFEATED in Camden Yards this season and that SHOULD continue this week.
