Yankees Weekend Series Preview- Red Sox

Playoffs in JUNE??

The New York Yankees were in Philadelphia to take on the Phillies this past week and they returned to their WINNING form by taking the series. After getting SWEPT by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, the Yankees had a STRONG showing in the first TWO games this week before PUNTING the last game of the series to get ready for a BIG series this weekend. The Boston Red Sox come to the Bronx to take on the Bombers this weekend for a battle for FIRST place. The Yankees and the Red Sox are TWO playoff teams, so we will see some HIGH quality baseball in the Bronx.

Yankees- Phillies Series Review:

Game 1- The Phillies are having a SURPRISE season and they were looking to CLIMB the leader board by beating the Yankees but Aaron Judge had OTHER ideas.

Judge’s Home Run gave the Yankees a 2-0 lead and a TWO run single by Giancarlo Stanton helped the Yankees EXTEND their lead. Johnny Lasagna made his THIRD start of his career and he was PHENOMENAL giving up NO runs in FIVE PLUS innings and got his SECOND win of the season thanks the Bullpen HOLDING on and giving the Yankees a 4-2 lead.

Game 2- The Yankees started right where they left on Monday night with the FIRST batter on Tuesday night, which was Aaron Hicks.

Luis Severino took the mound for the Yankees and he is the BEST pitcher in baseball right now. He gave up NO runs in SEVEN innings and got his TWELFTH win of the season, which LEADS the Majors. The Bullpen gave up NO runs again and they won the game 6-0 to WIN the series.

Game 3- The Yankees put together a TERRIBLE lineup to get ready for the Red Sox series and they LOST the game 3-0. NOBODY expected them to WIN so it was NOT shocking that they got their THIRD shut out of the season.

I would have LOVED for the Yankees to sweep in Philadelphia but I will take TWO out of three, we are onto the Red Sox, who LEAD the AL East by ONE game going into TONIGHT.

The TWO teams have been BATTLING for FIRST place since the MIDDLE of April and NEITHER team has gotten a BIG lead in the division, this weekend can CHANGE that for EITHER team. The previous SIX games between these teams this season were SPLIT 3-3 and with the teams playing TEN more games after this weekend, it is a MUST WIN for BOTH teams.

The Yankee offense has been STREAKY lately and after Gary Sanchez went down with a Hamstring INJURY and will be out a MONTH, they need a batter to pick up the SLUGGING of Gary and that might be Miguel Andujar or Gleyber Torres. BOTH Miggy and Gleyber have been GREAT this season and will make the All Star Game next month, they will need to CONTINUE their GREAT season in the ABSENCE of Sanchie.

Brandon Drury came to the Yankees in an off season TRADE and he was SUPPOSED to be the Yankee THIRD baseman of the FUTURE but he suffered from Migraines early on in the season and was REPLACED by Miggy. Due to the GREAT start by Miggy, the Yankees had to put Drury in AAA and he has been the BEST player in the Minor Leagues during that time. Drury has been VOCAL about his FRUSTRATIONS of not being in the Big Leagues but he will get his OPPORTUNITY this weekend as the Yankees have called him up to POSSIBLY play some First Base this weekend.

In an effort to REST their BEST players for the Red Sox series, the Yankees pitched Luis Cessa on Wednesday and rested MAJORITY of the FRONT end of the bullpen for this weekend. The Yankees will be FULLY equipped for the Red Sox this weekend and I will be DISAPPOINTED if they cannot WIN the series this weekend.

Yankees- Red Sox Pitching Match ups:

Game 1: Tonight- CC Sabathia vs Eduardo Rodriguez

Game 2: Saturday Night- Sonny Gray vs Chris Sale

Game 3: Sunday Night- Luis Severino vs David Price

This weekend is going to produce some GREAT baseball and it is going to be NERVE WRECKING for EVERY single pitch throughout the weekend.
