Yankees Series Preview- Nationals

The Kings of New York CONTINUES to ROLL

The Yankees faced their IN TOWN Rivals, the New York Mets over the weekend and won ANOTHER series. Even though the Yankees scored only EIGHT series and were TRAILING in all games, but they managed to come back in TWO of the games to WIN the series against the LOWLY Mets. The Yankees were SHUTOUT for the first time this season on Sunday Night and they will look to END that streak when they take on the Washington Nationals at HOME over the next two days. BOTH the Yankees and the Nationals are in FIRST place, so this week could be a PREVIEW of the World Series.

Subway Series Recap-

Game 1- Jacob DeGrom took the mound for the Mets on Friday night, who is PROBABLY going to win the NL Cy Young award and he was PROVING his skill against the Yankees. The Yankees could only manage to score ONE run against him till the EIGHTH inning before Brett Gardner put the team on his back and hit ANOTHER Go-Ahead home run.

Masahiro Tanaka was the STARTER for the Yankees and he went FIVE innings giving up only ONE run before he got HURT running the bases while scoring the GAME TYING run. He was taken OUT of the game after that point and it later came out that he is going to miss about a MONTH with Hamstring Strains in BOTH his legs.

Giancarlo Stanton has been GREAT at Citi Field and he continued to RAKE hitting a Home Run in the NINTH to EXTEND the lead and give them a 4-1 WIN in the FIRST game of the Subway Series.

Game 2- Domingo German was supposed to be the replacement for Jordan Montgomery before he came back but Monty is going to be OUT for the rest of the season and with Tanaka being OUT for a month, German has become an IMPORTANT starter for the Yankees. He did not have a GREAT start to his outing on Saturday Night, giving up THREE runs in the FIRST inning but he calmed down after that and gave up NO runs from that point on.

The TWO rookie infielders on the Yankees, Gleyber Torres and Miguel Andujar have been PHENOMENAL this season and there is a chance that they could SPLIT the AL Rookie of the Year award, the way they are going right now. The TWO Rookie of the Year candidates had one Home Run EACH, including a TWO run shot by Andujar, to tie the game at THREE for the Yankees. The AL Rookie of the Year from LAST season, Aaron Judge hit a MOONSHOT to give the Yankees the lead in the EIGHTH inning AGAIN.

This was the FOURTH game in a row in which the Yankees had a Game Winning Home Run in the EIGHTH inning or LATER, which shows that this team is NEVER Dead.

Game 3- The Yankees were looking for the SWEEP on Sunday Night but they could NOT muster up a run against the Mets. Luis Severino gave up TWO runs and that was enough to SNAP his SEVEN game winning streak. This was the FIRST shutout of the season for the Yankees and it was the FIRST time this season the Yankee offense looked LOST.

The game on Sunday Night did not go how I would have liked but they still got the series WIN over the Mets. The Yankees are a team that scores a TON of runs via the Home Run, which is a little ALARMING as the number of Home Runs usually goes down in the Postseason and the Yankees are on a mission to WIN the World Series so they need to FIX that.

LOSING Masahiro Tanaka and Jordan Montgomery is a BIG blow for the Yankees and they are in DESPERATE need for At Least ONE if not MORE starting pitchers, they will try to find that pitcher in their farm system before making BIG trades closer to the Trade Deadline. Good Pitching beats Good Hitting in the Postseason so the Yankees need to go get GREAT pitchers if they want to WIN World Series number 28 this season.

The Yankees take on the Nationals who they have faced for FIVE innings this season. The two teams will play 3.5 games over the next week with TWO games being in the Bronx this week and the two teams finishing the suspended game and playing a FULL game on Monday in Washington. The Yankees match up really WELL against the Nationals and should ROLL over them as they look to get some SEPERATION over the Boston Red Sox in the AL East Standings.

Yankees- Nationals Pitching Match Ups

Game 1: Tonight- CC Sabathia vs Tanner Roark

Game 2: Wednesday Night- Sonny Gray vs Erick Fedde

The Yankees are TIED with the Red Sox and if they CONTINUE to roll they will get SEPERATION in the division.
