The New York Yankees continued to ROLL over TRASH opponents after taking BOTH games over the Toronto Blue Jays earlier this week. The Yankees needed THIRTEEN innings on Wednesday night but a WIN is a WIN and they have now won SEVEN out of their last EIGHT as they continue to have the BEST winning percentage in baseball. The Yankees’ winning percentage is going to even BETTER this weekend when they take on the New York Mets who are among the WORST teams in baseball and the series CULMINATES with the Yankees taking on my MORTAL ENEMY Noah Syndergaard on Sunday Night Baseball.
Yankees- Blue Jays Series Recap-
Game 1- CC Sabathia took the mound for the Yankees and he had been BAD in his last few starts but he turned BACK the clock on Tuesday night. CC went SEVEN innings giving up only TWO runs including giving up NO runs in the first FIVE innings. The Yankees had some BAD news regarding their pitching staff, which I will go in detail later, but they need CC to be GREAT for the rest of the season or else they might be in TROUBLE.
The Yankees had NOT scored a run going into the SEVENTH inning, but it seems as if the Yankees are UNDEFEATED after being TIED or losing by ONE going into the seventh inning and Miguel Andujar made sure that the Yankees had ANOTHER come from behind win.
Andujar has been GREAT ever since he came to the Yankees following Brandon Drury’s injury and if NOT for Gleyber Torres, Miggy would be RUNNING AWAY with the AL Rookie of the Year award. Drury has been playing really WELL in the Minors but the way Miggy has been playing LATELY, Drury is not going to come back to the Majors anytime soon. Aaron Hicks has NOT been great this season but he hit a THREE run home run to EXTEND the lead and give the Yankees a 7-2 WIN.
Game 2- Sonny Gray is ANOTHER player that has NOT been great this season but he was GREAT in his last start against the Orioles and he followed that up with his BEST start as a Yankee. Gray had EIGHT Shut Out innings but the Yankees did not score a run in the first NINE innings and we were headed to EXTRAS.
The BIGGEST knock on Aaron Judge thus far this season is that he has NOT been that great on the Road but he SILENCED his haters with a HOT shot in the THIRTEENTH inning on Wednesday Night.
Giancarlo Stanton hit the HARDEST hit ball of the season in the Thirteenth to EXTEND the lead for the Yankees and give them a 3-0 win. Stanton has now homered in THREE of the last FIVE games and the Yankees travelling to Citi Field this weekend which is a FAMILIAR park for Stanton, he might be going into a HOT streak for the next FEW weeks.
The Yankees took care of the Blue Jays this week which is NOT a great feat but the GREAT starts by CC Sabathia and Sonny Gray was a HUGE positive sign for the Yankees going forward after the news that came out of the Yankees on Tuesday Afternoon.
Jordan Montgomery had a GREAT rookie season last year and he had been GOOD this year as the team’s FIFTH starter but he had suffered an ELBOW injury earlier this season against the Houston Astros and he was on the Disabled List with an INFLAMED Elbow. There were reports during the Orioles series that he had started throwing but it came out on Tuesday that he is going to require Tommy John surgery and will miss the REMAINDER of this season and a BIG chunk of the 2019 season. It usually takes EIGHTEEN months for a pitcher to recover from Tommy John surgery so I do NOT expect Monty to be HEALTHY and ready to go until the START of the 2020 season.
The Monty injury throws a Wrench into the Yankees’ plan as they ALREADY in the market for a starting pitcher and they now might need TWO starters now. Domingo German has been pitching in place of Monty but he has NOT been good and the Yankees need him to pitch BETTER if he wants to CONTINUE to be their FIFTH starter. The Yankees are in the market for a starter that would complement Luis Severino at the TOP of the rotation and if German continues to STRUGGLE than they might need ANOTHER pitcher at the back of the rotation.
The Yankees take on their cross town RIVALS, the New York Mets on the road this weekend. The Mets had the BEST record in baseball through the first TWELVE games of the season, but they have the WORST record in baseball since that point and are in a TAILSPIN. The Yankees have a HISTORY of beating up on the Mets and that should CONTINUE this weekend in Queens.
Yankees- Mets Pitching Match Ups-
Game 1: Tonight- Masahiro Tanaka vs Jacob DeGrom
Game 2: Saturday Night- Domingo German vs Steven Matz
Game 3: Sunday Night- Luis Severino vs Noah Syndergaard
Jacob DeGrom is going to WIN the NL Cy Young award this year, so it would NOT shock me if the Yankee do NOT put up a run against him going into the SEVENTH inning or later. LUCKILY for the Yankees, the Mets have a REALLY BAD bullpen and the Yankees have BEAT up on bullpens this season so I am PRETTY confident about them this weekend.
The Mets have one of the WORST offenses in baseball so the Yankee pitching staff should not be TROUBLED by them all weekend long which leads us to Sunday Night…
Noah Syndergaard is the WORST human being alive and he loves to PRETEND that he is a STAR in New York. I CANNOT wait till the REAL stars of New York, Aaron Judge and Gary Sanchez SHUT him up for good on Sunday Night and the BEST pitcher in New York, Luis Severino POSSIBLY throws a NO Hitter against the TERRIBLE Mets on National Television.
