The Yankees continue to play TRASH teams as they look to IMPROVE upon having the best record in baseball. After BEATING UP on the Baltimore Orioles over the weekend, they traveled to Detroit to take on the Tigers for a Double Header yesterday, which they SPLIT. Last night they went to NORTH of the Border to take on the Toronto Blue Jays before they come back to New York for the Subway Series this weekend to beat up on the TRASHY New York Mets.
Yankees- Tigers Series Recap-
Game 1- Luis Severino has been the BEST pitcher in the AL East all season and he CONTINUED to DOMINATE yesterday. He went EIGHT innings giving up only TWO runs to earn his NINTH win of the season, which is TIED for MOST in Majors.
Rookie Gleyber Torres and Greg Bird continued to CRUSH the ball EACH hitting a SOLO Home Run but the BIG blow came from Austin Romine, the BEST baseball player of All Time. Romine hit a THREE run Home Run to EXTEND the Yankees lead in a SIX run inning in the FOURTH to CRUISE to a 7-4 WIN. Romine continues to lead ALL of baseball in Batting Average with Runners in Scoring Position, thus earning the nickname RISP Romine.
Game 2- The Yankees had lined up Domingo German to pitch the SECOND game of the day last night. German had been REALLY BAD over his last THREE starts but pitching against the TERRIBLE Tigers’ offense helped him get off his SLUMP. German gave up FOUR runs in SIX and a Half innings to give the Yankee offense a chance to win the game.
Tigers’ starting pitcher Mike Fiers threw a ball at the elbow of Giancarlo Stanton and the two had a HEATED exchange after the Hit by Pitch. Stanton had a BOMB in his next At-Bat and FLEXED on Fiers, which was the ONLY highlight of the night for the Yankees offensively as they LOST 4-2 to the Tigers.
I feel like MOST doubleheaders end up in a SPLIT so I am CONTENT with how things went yesterday. There were MANY positive signs for the Yankees in the TWO games including Bird and Stanton, who seem like they are about to go on a HOT streak and MASH the ball to carry the Yankee offense. The ONLY batter that has been STRUGGLING right now is Gary Sanchez, but with the HOT streak of Romine, the Yankees can give some time off to Sanchie till he figures out his swing and comes OUT of the SLUMP.
The pitching staff has been PHENOMENAL over the last FIVE games after being TERRIBLE over the last COUPLE of weeks, the schedule is really SOFT for the next few weeks so if the Yankees can pitch well then they will be able to get some SEPARATION between them and the Boston Red Sox in the AL East standings.
The Yankees take on the Blue Jays this week in Toronto, who are currently FIFTEEN games out of first place and have been TERRIBLE. The Yankees started their season in Toronto taking TWO games out of FOUR in the first series of the season, but they are a MUCH better team right now and should be able to MOP the floor over the next TWO days before returning back to New York.
Yankees- Blue Jays Pitching Match Ups-
Game 1: Tonight- CC Sabathia vs Marco Estrada
Game 2: Wednesday Night- Sonny Gray vs Sam Gaviglio
The Yankees won BOTH games pitched by Sabathia and Gray last week, so if the two pitchers continue to LIMIT the runs put up by the Blue Jays than the Yankees should be able to CRUISE to TWO more wins to continue be the BEST team in baseball.
