Yankees Weekend Series Preview- Indians

I take back all NEGATIVE things I said about this team

The New York Yankees continue to ROLL on their TOUGHEST part of the schedule thus far this season. After winning THREE games against a PROBABLE playoff team, the LA Angels, the Yankees took THREE out of FOUR games against the Defending World Series Champions, the Houston Astros. The series was against the Astros was WILD, they won TWO of the games in the NINTH inning. The THREE teams that the Yankees played in the 2017 Postseason are the Minnesota Twins, the Cleveland Indians and the Astros. The Yankees SWEPT the Twins last week, took THREE out of FOUR from the Astros this week and they will take on the Indians for a THREE game series this weekend.

The Yankees and the Astros are BY FAR the best teams in baseball and this series was a BIG benchmark for both teams. All FOUR games this week had PLAYOFF atmosphere in Houston and the Yankees showed that they belong on the BIG stage. The Yankee pitching staff was DOMINANT for the whole series, until the SEVENTH inning yesterday, the Yankee pitching staff did not give up a run for TWENTY EIGHT innings in a row. The Yankees could not be playing better right now, and I am really AROUSED.

Yankees- Astros Series Recap-

Game 1- Astros’ pitcher Charlie Morton shut down the Yankees batting lineup allowing only ONE run. Sonny Gray was making a BIG start for his spot in the rotation and he only gave TWO runs in his start. Gray picked the WORST day to throw his BEST game of the season, but he ended up with the LOSS.

Game 2- Yankees always have had PROBLEMS against Justin Verlander, he shut them down for EIGHT innings. Jordan Montgomery went down with an arm INJURY after the FIRST inning, but the Bullpen including Domingo German, was able to match ZEROs with Verlander. German pitched FIVE shutout innings and with Chad Green and David Robertson doing their job, the game was TIED going into the NINTH inning.

Instead of bringing BACK Verlander, the Astros went to Ken Giles for the NINTH inning, who was TRASH against the Yankees in the ALCS last season. Giles allowed the first TWO batters: Aaron Judge and Didi Gregorius to get on base with game being SCORELESS. The Astros did not INTENTIONALLY walk Gary Sanchez and he hit the ball to the MOON and the Yankees were leading 3-0. They added ANOTHER run in the inning and Aroldis Chapman came into CLOSE the game and the Yankees won 4-0.

Game 3- Luis Severino has one of the BEST pitchers in baseball since the START of LAST season and he SHUT DOWN the Astros offense. Sevy went NINE shutout innings, having probably the BEST game of his career and now LEADS the league in Wins thanks to Giancarlo Stanton. This season has NOT started out great for Stanton, but he DROVE in all FOUR runs for the Yankees including TWO home runs to help the Yankees get their SECOND win of the series.

Game 4- Masahiro Tanaka started right where Sevy left off and he gave the Yankees gave SIX shutout innings yesterday. The Yankee offense patched THREE runs, mostly from the BOTTOM of the order and it looked like they were going to ESCAPE Houston WINNING this series.

Tanaka gave up FLUKY hits in the seventh and after a CONTROVERSIAL hit by pitch, the Astros had the bases loaded with NO outs in the SEVENTH. Chad Green came in for RELIEF and he was NOT great, the Astros scored FOUR runs in the inning to get their FIRST lead since Monday. They added another run in the EIGHTH and the Yankees were looking at a DEVASTATING loss down 5-3 going into the NINTH.

The Yankees BOTTOM of the order had the BASES LOADED for rookie Gleyber Torres, the number NINE hitter in the lineup. Torres came through and drove in TWO runs to tie the game. Aaron Hicks scored a run on an Aaron Judge ground out and the Yankees had REGAINED the lead. Chapman came in the NINTH to close out the Astros and despite the Astros THREATENING, the Yankees were able to HOLD ON and win their TWENTY FIRST game of the season and their ELEVENTH win in TWELVE games.

This series could NOT have gone better for the Bombers, the pitching staff put together their BEST series of the season and if not for the HICCUP in the game yesterday, this series was FLAWLESS for the Yankees.

The Yankees offense has not been POURING hits but they are CLUTCH and get BIG hits EVERY game. The Yankees are NEVER dead because of this CLUTCH offense. The Yankees went 6-1 on this road trip, when people expected them to be UNDER .500. On Monday, I said that I would be ECSTATIC if the Yankees went 5-5 in their next TEN games, through FOUR games, they are 3-1, so you could say I am ECSTATIC.

The Cleveland Indians come into town this weekend in a REMATCH of the ALDS from last season. That series was NAIL-BITING for all FIVE games, so this weekend is going to produce some GREAT baseball. The Indians are in FIRST place in a STRUGGLING division, so the Yankees should continue their HOT streak this weekend.

The Yankees are currently 1.5 game BEHIND the Boston Red Sox, who come to Yankee Stadium next week, so this weekend is IMPORTANT for the Yankees.

Yankees- Indians Pitching Match ups

Game 1: Tonight- Josh Tomlin vs CC Sabathia

Game 2: Saturday Afternoon- Trevor Bauer vs Sonny Gray

Game 3: Sunday Afternoon- Mike Clevinger vs Domingo German

The first TWO Yankees pitchers were GREAT in their last start and I expect them to ROLL this weekend. Sunday is going to be INTERESTING for the Yankees as German will make his FIRST start of his career, so the emotions in that game will be HIGH.

BOTH the Indians and the Yankees will be in the Postseason this season, so WINNING this series will build even more confidence for the team. This team has become really FUN to watch.
