Yankees Series Preview- Twins

Baseball is fun to watch right now

THANK god the baseball season is like SEVEN months long, I was looking for the PANIC button on Thursday, but after this weekend, I have thrown it out of the window. The Yankees took three out of four games from the Toronto Blue Jays, who are AHEAD of them in the standings for the time being. Giancarlo Stanton FINALLY ended his home run cold streak, while Aaron Judge and Didi Gregorious continue to MASH the baseball. Yankees TOP prospect, Gleyber Torres made his debut yesterday and despite his EARLY struggles, the Yankees have anointed him as the starting second baseman for the REST of the season. The Yankees take on the Minnesota Twins this week, a team they beat in the Wild Card game last season. The Yankees go on the West Coast this weekend, so they need to end this HOMESTAND on a POSITIVE note.

Blue Jays Series Recap-

Game 1- CC Sabathia returned from the DL and he did enough to limit the RED HOT Blue Jays offense to just TWO runs. The bullpen did the job for the Yankees, pitching FOUR and two-thirds inning giving up only ONE run. Aaron Judge hit his FIFTH home run of the season and he has been on an offensive TEAR this season. He is among the league leaders in On-base percentage.

FINAL SCORE- Yankees 4 Blue Jays 3

Game 2- Sonny Gray has HIGH expectations on his arm this season and thus far he has NOT lived up to those expectations. He struggled AGAIN in the game and gave up FIVE runs in less than FOUR innings pitched. Despite a two-run home run by Stanton, his first in almost THREE weeks, the Yankees offense could not score enough runs to keep up with the Blue Jays.

FINAL SCORE- Blue Jays 8 Yankees 5

Game 3- Jordan Montgomery was the FIFTH starter for the Yankees and right now he has been pitching like their second best pitcher. He gave up only ONE run in six innings pitched on Saturday, he was DOMINANT throughout his start. The offense scored SIX runs in the seventh inning to PULL AWAY from the Blue Jays. Aaron Judge hit ANOTHER home run this series in the third inning. Miguel Andujar has been another hitter that has been MASHING the ball lately he did the most DAMAGE in the Yankees BIG inning.

FINAL SCORE- Yankees 9 Blue Jays 1

Game 4- Former Yankee Jaime Garcia returned to the Bronx for the FIRST time since signing with the Blue Jays in the offseason and Didi welcomed him with a home run in the FIRST inning. Austin Romine continued be the BEST hitter with Runners in Scoring Position in baseball HISTORY having a two-run double in the second inning. Luis Severino has been one of the best pitchers in all of baseball since last season and that did not stop yesterday, he pitched SEVEN innings giving up only ONE runs. He got his FOURTH win of the season, which is tied for most in the majors. Gleyber Torres went 0-4 in his FIRST Major League game.

FINAL SCORE- Yankees 5 Blue Jays 1

The Yankees were firing on all cylinders this weekend, the Blue Jays had been HOT and they shut them down over the last two games. This series was much needed for the Yankees, who can use this momentum to start DOMINATING their schedule. The Boston Red Sox are on a TWO game LOSING streak, so maybe things are TURNING AROUND for the Yankees.

The Twins are another team that has been ROAMING around .500 all season and the Yankees should be able to win some games this week.

Pitching Matchups for the Twins series-

Game 1: Tonight- Masahiro Tanaka vs Jake Odorizzi

Game 2: Tuesday Night- CC Sabathia vs Jose Berrios

Game 3: Wednesday Night- Sonny Gray vs Lance Lynn

Game 4: Thursday Night- TBD vs Kyle Gibson

The Yankees have the CLEAR advantage in pitching this week, but it is a BIG start for Sonny Gray this week. If he STRUGGLES this week, then I would NOT be surprised if he ends up on the DL with a FAKE injury to give him some time to regroup. The Yankees have not decided on their FOURTH starter for this series, they could either go with Jordan Montgomery or start someone from the Minor Leagues and start Monty in the FIRST game of the West Coast trip on Friday night.

The Yankees will board their plane and travel to Anaheim on Thursday to play the LA Angels this weekend, so they need to have a GOOD showing this week because ANYTHING can happen on a West Coast Trip.
