The feeling that I have today is UNLIKE any other, today is the FIRST day till (hopefully) November that the Yankees will be playing a REAL baseball game. In a couple of hours they will take on the Detroit Tigers at George Steinbrenner Field in Tampa Bay for their first game of Spring Training.
As it is the FIRST spring training game, I have very MINIMAL expectations for this phase of the season. Aaron Judge is not going to be playing in games for another WEEK as he is recovering from a shoulder INJURY that he suffered during last season. Today’s game is about looking at some of the YOUNG prospects in the Yankees farm system that might be traded during the season to make them better at the Trade Deadline.
I honestly do NOT care if the Yankees lose EVERY game in Spring Training as long as all the BIG guns remain healthy and they are able to find the FIFTH starter of the rotation. Right now there rotation is in no particular order: Luis Severino, Masahiro Tanaka, CC Sabathia, and Sonny Gray. Will the FIFTH starter be one of the players in their farm system like Chance Adams and Justus Sheffield, or will they make ANOTHER big SPLASH by signing a free agent pitcher like Jake Arrieta.
I have been waiting for this day since LAST October and the next SEVEN months the Yankees are going to be winning a LOT of games. I am going to be blogging a LOT about the Yankees over the next SEVEN months so come back here FREQUENTLY to get my take on the season.
