Things got really wild in the last game of the Sweet 16, where we saw 4 Florida top 8 Wisconsin in a crazy back and forth overtime battle. That ended a crazy Sweet 16 in which all but 2 games were nail biters and there were many upsets throughout. After all the dust has settled from the last two nights, we now look ahead to the Elite Eight. Three 1 seeds are still alive but so are a 7 seed and a 11 seed. 11 seed Xavier is not considered a Cinderella because they have not come out of nowhere, many experts (yours truly) believed that they had an outside chance to make it to the Elite Eight. Their run will most likely end today against 1 seed Gonzaga, who will finally make the Final Four for the first time under Coach Mark Few. In the other game today, 1 seed Kansas against 3 seed Oregon, the Jayhawks of Kansas have looked too dominant in the tourney and will advance to the Final Four. Things could get a little bit more interesting in the games tomorrow where we will see 4 seed Florida take on 7 seed South Carolina in the “Mecca of Basketball”, and in the other game we will see a battle of true blue bloods and a possible candidate for game of the tourney 1 seed North Carolina against 2 seed Kentucky. North Carolina has looked like the best team on that side of the bracket, and they were my pick to win the tourney, so I am going to go ahead and pencil them in to the Final Four. All three 1 seeds will survive and advance to the Final Four, which makes the game in New York, the most unpredictable of the bunch. I almost went 3 for 3 with my upset picks but two shots fell in that should not have and I finished 1 for 3. I see only one true upset in this round, which will take place in the East Region
7 South Carolina over 4 Florida
So 1 seeds Gonzaga, Kansas, and North Carolina, along with 7 seed South Carolina will be the four teams represented in Glendale next weekend. I will have a preview of those match ups next Saturday. Enjoy the games this weekend!!
